PIZZA, PIZZA, PIZZA
The assignment
taste test homemade, bag, and frozen pizzas
Homemade
4/5
This pizza was easily my favorite. The best part about this pizza was easily the crust. It was soft, but not soggy. The cornmeal made the bottom of the crust have a interesting texture that it liked. The sauce was minimal, but that is what made this pizza so good. The sauce was tangy but not spicy like the other pizzas we tried. The cheese was very delicious and provided color and flavor to the pizza.

Bag Pizza
2/5
The bag crust pizza was the worst out of the 3 that we tried. The crust was really bland and stiff, and it absorbed the moisture from the pizza sauce, making the pizza very stodgy. The cheese was the best part about the pizza, as there was mounds of gooey cheese on the pizza.

Frozen Pizza
3/5

The frozen pizza was the mid range pizza in this experiment. The good part about this pizza was the crust and the sauce. The crust was the typical brittle, hard crust, which isn't bad, but is not preferable. The sauce was very spicy, but there was way too much for my liking. The worst part about this pizza would be the cheese or lack of. One of my favorite parts about pizza is the cheese, and the amount of cheese was war ration like in proportion to the rest of the pizza.

PIZZA CRITIQUE

CLAIRE SCHMITT

This week in class we taste tested three different kinds of pizza and their crusts. There was a frozen pizza, a homemade pizza crust, and a store bought pizza crust. In my personal opinion, pizza is not the most appealing food, so beware of some biased reviews from a person far from being a pizza expert!

1. Frozen Pizza

Oh lord, where do I begin? On a scale from 1-10, I would sadly give this train wreck a 1.5. My reasoning behind this was that the crust was flavorless and overall very dull. It had a cardboard-like appearance with its unnatural smoothness and light color. The texture was stale and dry while the taste was a mixture of burnt and sweet. What a weird combination. It's aroma was very weak and basically was non-existent. The overall appearance of this pizza was flat and dull with the sad chunks of meat and the range of colors from burnt to unnatural. The overall acceptability was revolting, and  something I would never choose to eat. Let's just say I would have to be very desperate to choose something like this to eat over anything else!

2. Homemade White Crust Pizza

Out of all three pizzas, this was the most acceptable to me. Does that mean that I loved it and would want to eat it again? No. Like I said before, ya girls not a fan of pizza. On a scale of 1-10, this one would get a solid 3. This texture was slightly hard, but definitely softer than the other two. It was the thickest of the two also, and had the most variety of color and grease. The taste was salty and greasy from the melted cheese, which also helped soften up the crust. There was not a strong taste that I would associate with this pizza because it was basically just plain and tasteless with a dash of salt and fat.  The color of this crust had an orange tint and the toppings colors were much more diverse than the other pizzas. The aroma was slightly sweet and moderately acceptable. The overall appearance was greasy and cheap looking (like when your mom would let you make pizzas at home for dinner with a kit that she bought at the grocery store when you were a kid). Also, the crust was slightly flaky if you were to grab one of the edge pieces. Overall, the acceptability was tolerable, but in my opinion it was nothing special.

3. Pre-Made Crust

This pre-made crust was fine. Well, sort of fine. Out of ten, it would probably get a 2. This crust was on the thinner side and was very reminiscent of the crusts you would get in a lunchable. The texture was very hard and made the pizza feel stale tough. The taste was very weak. Honestly I tasted nothing but the crust, which was like a giant cracker. This bland pizza had a super pale color and looked dull and dry. It's aroma was not acceptable because of the fact that it smelled acidic and barf like. The overall appearance was lumpy and curdled from the cheese. According to my notes, I wrote "super super gross", so there's that.  It was also pale and flat, contributing to my overall acceptability of this pizza to be a big fat "NO".

Overall, if I were stranded on a desert island and my only three options of food were these three pizzas, I would have to choose the Homemade White Crust Pizza. My reasoning behind this is that the texture of this pizza was the most appealing because of its different levels of hardness and chewiness. Also, this pizza had a better scent that actually reminded me of tomato sauce, which is a big factor in pizza for me. Was this pizza the best pizza I have ever had in my life? No. But it did have some aspects to it that I did somewhat enjoy and made the pizza the best out of the three (in my opinion). Well, I bid thee farewell as I continue on my journey to finding the most appealing pizza to me that will result in some socks being blown off.

~ Pizza Blog~

In my baking and pastry class we were asked to sample three different types of pizza and vote on which one had the best taste, texture, and appearance. The three pizzas we had to choose between were Frozen, Pre-made, or Homemade and here was how I decided which one I like the best.

Frozen:
The frozen pizza was honestly the worst out of all three. The crust was very dry and tough to chew. The sauce was not spicy enough, or satisfying at all. The meat mix that was a top the pizza was very bland and quite dry. Once you got past the first bite the texture of the pizza was dry with every bite, and it's appearance wasn't too pleasing either. The pizza was very thin and almost had a burnt look to it in general. Don't take me wrong this pizza smelled delicious between the sweet marinara smell and the spicy meat. I'd eat it over the other pizzas if we voted by smell, or I've just eaten enough frozen pizza in my life.

Pre-Made:
The Pre-made was a tiny bit better than the Frozen only because it's appearance looked more appetizing, but it still had the stale and crunchy crust which I didn't like that much. This pizza tasted greasy and bland overall. It wasn't the worst but it still was one of my least favorites. The sauce reminded me of eating spaghetti which made me want pasta, not pizza. The Texture of the pizza was better than the frozen since it wasn't as dry or crunchy. But the appearance was pretty much the same for the both of them, dull. The smell to this pizza was very similar to the Homemade one because of the sauce on both of them. Smelled very tomato like and somewhat garlicy.

Homemade:
This pizza was the best out of all three of the pizzas we had tried. The appearance alone made you want to sink your teeth into it. The crust and dough was thick, with a garlic, Parmesan, parsley sprinkled crust to the cornmeal on the bottom of the pizza. The sauce was still too spaghetti like which I didn't like a lot, but the melted salty cheese layered on top of the pizza countered that. The texture of the pizza was pleasing because it was soft and chewy, it was not hard to bite into and get a bit of each delicious flavor. You could smell this pizza just walking into the room, an you knew it was this one because no other one seemed to have any amazing spices on them. This made you want to eat more of this one than the others just because it met your taste buds before you ate it.

Pizza Critique

Taylor Brooks-2

In class we were give three types of pizzas to taste and give our opinion on them.  The three pizzas were Homemade White Crust Pizza, Pre-made Crust and Frozen Pizza.

Homemade White Crust Pizza- The crust was crunchy but also very soft. The mozzarella cheese melted in your mouth when you took a big bite. When you bit into the pizza it was very thick and chewy, which is delicious by the way. When I smelt this pizza it smelt like my kitchen after my mom had just made hot lasagna, it smelt amazing. I would give this pizza a 8/10, I did not like the crust as much as I thought I would have.

Pre-Made Crust Pizza- This pizza had an over-abundance of red pizza sauce, which made it hard to enjoy the other components of the pizza. When I bit into this pizza it had a hard, crunchy crust and I could only taste the oil when it was in my mouth, it was very greasy. This pizza was my least favorite because of the over- whelming amount of sauce. When I have pizza I don't like a lot of sauce, I like to be able to taste the gooey cheese and the warm crust as well.

Frozen Pizza: Surprisingly the frozen pizza was my favorite out of all the pizzas. It was so crispy and crunchy I wanted to have 5 more pieces just so I could taste the crispness of the crust. It had the perfect amount of sauce, cheese everything. It melted in your mouth, it was pure perfection.

                                                             Cookie Critique:
Comparing the homemade chocolate chip and the famous amos cookies I found that the chocolate chip cookies to be better. The chocolate chip cookies were brown , soft, and sweet . Also for the texture ,taste, color, aroma, and overall appearances all got 3's because the cookie  met my expectations compared to the famous amos cookies. On the other hand the famous amos cookies were hard , crumbly , and crunchy. Even though it was good the overall acceptability is a 2.5 while the homemade chocolate chip cookie is at 3.

Pizza Review

During my Baking and Pastry class were put to the test of tasting different types of baked pizzas such as Frozen, Pre-Made, and Homemade. The three pizzas were baked differently, their appearance were turned out different then I expected it to be, but it's not appearance that I was tested on, I had taste it and get the texture and see if they are different than they look.

First I've tried the frozen pizza, the appearance of was burnt, been over cooked a bit. The frozen pizza was a dull, blah color which makes it unappealing not appetizing to the eye, but once I tasted it, it was a whole new world of disgusting. Everything about it was dry, fake with every bite, nothing about it was appealing to me and I wouldn't recommended to other people because it's not worth taking a bite out of fake frozen pizza unless they prefer it. In my personal opinion I gave this pizza 3/10.

Second I went to the next pizza the Pre-Made. The overall appearance had a golden brown coloring with a greasy appearance to it; when you lift it off the plate it would make a greasy stain on it, and it also had a cheesy aroma smell to it which makes you know that it doesn't have any artificial flavored or ingredients to the pizza itself. Once I've sunk my teeth into the pizza I've taste familiar flavors that you put in spaghetti. Even through the crust was the perfect fluffy texture and the right crunch, but it did not satisfy my taste buds. All I could taste in my mouth was a cup load of greasy which would not satisfy anyone's hunger for this pizza. In my personal opinion I gave this pizza 7/10.

Lastly I've tried the Homemade pizza with white crust. The overall appearance of this pizza was that the entire pizza had a thick layer of dough beneath the cheese, it had more crust than pizza so it would just be a cheesy bread instead calling it a pizza. The Homemade had a cheesy and dough aroma to it which clicks into your brain, knowing that it's defiantly homemade. The cheese had a golden brown coloring, and a gralicy taste to it which satisfy my taste buds if you're a garlic fan like me. In my personal opinion I gave this is pizza 9/10. the best out of all the pizzas I have test tasted.

                                                                           Pizza Review
We sampled three different pizzas, and of the three pizzas I only found one to be somewhat good.
The first pizza was homemade. It had a thicker and softer crust, and the top was very greasy. The overall appearance was light, fluffy, and golden. It smelled pretty close to what any pizza would smell like but the taste was a little weak but still cheesy. I would rate this pizza a 6/10.
The second pizza was from a bag mix, the crust was thin and dark although it was pretty chewy. the top of the pizza was darker and salty. It smelled and tasted nothing like pizza and made me sick, which made this pizza the worst and I would rate it 4/10. The last one we tasted was frozen pizza. It also had a thin crust and was a little crumbly and I would rate the softness 2/3. It definitely smelled best although it didn't look like it. I would rate this pizza 8/10.

Cheesy pizza review

There was three type of pizza that I had tasted, there was homemade, frozen, and bagged. out of the three of them homemade was the most delightful, with the thick crust and with the cornmeal gave it more texture and the cheese had a light brown color to it. The homemade pizza was the most appealing to the eye. The frozen pizza was the second best because every american has experienced frozen pizza, with the thin crust and the crunchiness of the pizza as a whole, the pizza had a lot of bright flavor to it. The last one i had tasted was the bagged pizza, it honestly tasted like spaghetti and not the best spaghetti that your grandmother makes. When you actually tasted the bagged pizza it was okay just didn't taste like pizza. For everyone who likes pizza, I would recommend the homemade because it has more of a lighter texture than the rest, plus who doesn't love homemade food?

Pizza Food Critique

First, let's talk about the Homemade Pizza Crust White: Looks are great pizzas, with a characteristic  orange color of pizza, light,  relative thickness, the surface can seen a bit sour and oily. Tasted very good, moderate softness there, not too salty nor too sweet. This is a kind of pizza I like.

As for the Pre. Made Crust : for me It's really not that bad, it's thin, tiny, brownish, brittle, with a bit of sour sweet. I think this pretty much taste people love. I also love this pizza.

The last one, Frozen Pizza: It's not the pizza I like, from texture to taste. It's thin, dry steam, the color a bit like the Pre. Made Crust Pizza.
The homemade crust was bubbly and the crust was super thin. The frozen pizza was brown and the bottom was lumpy and burned. The premade pizza was the best but the only down side to the pizza is the stuff on the bottom of the pizza.

Pizza Critique

We sampled three different pizzas, but I found only one of the them satisfactory.

I found the homemade pizza to be the most appealing and flavorful, so i would rate it a 9/10. The crust was very fluffy and crisp. The crust was also able to to hold all the toppings and sauce without becoming soggy, which can't be said for the other pizzas. With the crust being a risen dough, the yeast gave it a very unique taste. I also experienced some spiciness, but that might have ben more from the sauce. The crust was slightly overdone but still retained a beautiful golden color. Out of the three pizzas, this one was the most aromatic. You could smell the yeastiness of the crust right as you are about to eat it. Overall, this pizza ranked fairly high on my list, nearing the rank of Black Sheep's Meatball Pizza.

On to the next pizza we tried, which was with the pre-made crust. When most people think of pre-made pizza dough, they think of a freezer-burnt and pale excuse of a pizza. But on the contrary, this crust was surprisingly not terrible, as I would rank it a 7/10. Sure, it wasn't the most amazing pizza in the world, but in a pinch for dinner, I'd make it. The taste of the crust was lightly cardboard like, but not some much that it overpowered the cheese and sauce. The color was significantly paler than the homemade crust, but obtained some sense of color. The aroma of this pizza crust lacked astronomically compared to the homemade pizza. There was almost no scent to it at all. The overall appearance was fine, there could have been more cheese in my opinion.

The last pizza we tried was the dreaded frozen pizza, which I gave a rating of 4/10. The crust had the consistency of wet cardboard left to dry out in the sun, very soggy and bland. The taste of the crust was old and bitter. The overall color of the pizza was very unappealing. There'd be a sad swipe of sauce here and a little pinch of cheese there. Then there would be random "sausage" pieces scattered about. The crust itself was completely white and pale, it looked almost undercooked. The aroma of the pizza was nonexistent. All in all, the pizza was the worst pizza out of the three we tasted. It also might be the most bland and sad pizza I personally have ever had.

Pizza Critique

Pizza Critique

We had to try three types of pizzas. They were homemade, pre-made crust, and frozen pizza. At home, I usually go buy pizza from Pizza Hut, or Pizza Studio. Trying all these types of pizzas was very disappointing, because I did not like how they tasted. Pre-made crust was bland, homemade tasted like it was just too much--even though it was the best out of all, and frozen tasted like cardboard!

Homemade Pizza- ✮✮✮✰✰

The homemade pizza was juicy and cheesy. The cheese was soft, and it was stringy. The pizza was kind off mushy because when I picked it up, the pizza felt so fragile. But the color was beautiful. It was orangery with speckles of white cheese on it. The fact that it was homemade was interesting because I have never had homemade pizza. I was surprised that it actually turned out pretty well. When I eat pizza, I like to have a mix of flavors; this pizza had more sauce and flavor to the others but it was too simple for me. The crust was soft for me, I like a thin and crunchy crust. The aroma for the pizza was in first place; it smelled like a real pizza compared to the other ones. But when I ate it, it was the plain tomato sauce with a thin crust and too much cheese.

Pre-Made Crust- ✮✮✰✰✰

The pre-made crust came in second place. The pizza was too flat, It seemed to have barely any sauce on it. It looked very pale, lumpy and bland. It was not appealing at all. There was no flavor except for the cheese. The pizza was overall very boring. But it surprised me that this pizza crust was store bought! I thought that store bought crust would be much worse than this. Even though it did not taste very well, the crust tasted the best out of the whole pizza. The pizza seemed to be very greasy, because of the cheese. I do not enjoy eating greasy foods, so it did not appeal to me at all.

Frozen Pizza- ✮✰✰✰✰

Out of all the pizzas I tried, the frozen pizza was the worst! The color was dark and burnt. The whole pizza was extremely flat. The meat was all shriveled, it was not what I was hoping for. I eat frozen pizza occasionally, but compared to the homemade pizza, I almost gave this pizza a zero! The cheese was no where to be seen because the whole pizza was brown and dark. It was very stale, it seemed like it was very old. After one small bite, I could not stand to take another. The pizza seemed very stiff. It practically had no taste at all. It tasted like a very fake and cheap pizza.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Overall, the pizzas did not meet my expectations. Out of all the pizzas that I tried, the homemade pizza placed first. The aroma made me want to eat the pizza right away. Even though it was too simple of a pizza for me, it tasted the best compared to the pre-made crust and the frozen pizza. This taste test has made me realize that I will never have frozen pizza again!
